A Message on Racial Injustice - ParentPowered®

Like much of the nation, we are gripped by feelings of hurt and anger in the wake of the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other members of the black community. In solidarity with black families, educators and community members, we are committed to listening, learning, growing and acting to realize a future in which every child has the opportunity to flourish unhindered by racism and racial injustice.

We have spent the last week reflecting on actions we can take to contribute to the greater effort. While no one act will end racial injustice, we believe that the cumulative effect of many acts will create systemic change. Going forward, we are:

  • Offering curated resources about race and racial justice for educators to share with their families. It is our hope that these resources will not only provide useful guidance to parents but also give them the confidence to initiate these important conversations with their children. We invite recommendations of additional resources to include in this list, which we will grow over time.
  • Incorporating these resources into our technology platform and encouraging our partners to use them, while adding partner-specific local resources so parents will receive text messages providing meaningful and tangible support.
  • Conducting an internal review of all of our programs and policies to assess how we can improve ourselves, our company and our services to better support parents and children with a mindset of racial justice and equality.

While we are compelled to add our voice to the rapidly growing chorus of Americans standing up and taking action against racial injustice, we also recognize the immense need for deep listening. We are firmly committed to better understanding racial injustice and the role we can play to better deploy our tools and impart meaningful and lasting change.
